- Dr. Sung Ik Cho an Assistant Professor in the Department of Brain & Cognitive Sciences at KAIST, specializing in genome editing research.
- He completed his doctoral studies with Dr. Jin-Soo Kim at the Department of Chemistry, Seoul National University, where I focused on genome editing and I received his Ph.D. in 2022. Subsequently, He did post-doctoral training with Dr. Hyongbum Kim at Yonsei University College of Medicine.
- He has developed gene editing technologies not only for nuclear genes but also for genes in cellular organelles, such as mitochondria. During his graduate studies, he developed the world’s first mitochondrial adenine base editor and reported it.
- His ultimate goal is to harness genome editing technologies to treat not only genetic disorders but also a wide range of other diseases. Genome editing represents an unprecedented and revolutionary technology that enables precise correction of defective genes. He aims to leverage this technology to contribute positively to the world through impactful research in the years to come.
